It's been said to me, several times, that "Discovering WNY" & "WNY Kid" look like my personal love letters to Western New York. And although I had never looked at it that way until it was mentioned to me, I have to say, that that's probably as accurate a statement as anyone could make about the show. Both shows reflects my deep and abiding commitment to creating high-quality, locally-produced, fun and educational television for the region and is the culmination of over 12 years of work creating and producing locally flavored television programs out in the San Francisco Bay area and here, back home, in Western New York. The show is full of local sights, stories, features, fascinating history, and great people from our region all interwoven together in a multi-media adventure that features a little fun-filled educational content along with a touch of my own brand of admittedly, off-kilter, zany humor. The show is broadcast 22 times a week in the Rochester & Western Finger Lakes regions and 8 times a week in the Buffalo, Niagara & Southern Ontario regions! In the Rochester and Western Finger Lakes regions you can watch new, premier shows on Time Warner Cable on WBGT-TV (My Network TV 18) Saturdays at 10am and watch all our older shows you love on MY ROCHESTER TV 3x's a day, everyday. In the Buffalo, Niagara and Southern Ontario regions, you can watch new, premier shows every Saturday at 11am on WBXZ’s Throwback Television and Sundays at 10am on NBC's COZI-TV, and watch all our older shows once a day Sunday-Friday at 8am on Throwback Television! Thank you for your support, A. A. Augustine
Join A.A. & Sherry as we discover the world we live in in WNY! We keep it loose and fun and are learning with you just as you see it on the show! We travel throughout WNY bringing you the things you really should see for yourself! We like to say that we are just guides who's sole mission is to open up, expose and promote the endless variety of amazing people, places & things this entire region has to offer here in this wonderful place we all call home!
A. A. is the creator, producer, writer, editor and the co-host for the show when he has to fill-in. He brings over 14 years of experience creating and producing regional television programs to the show. Influenced by the local and regional television shows he grew up on, it became his goal to re-create the magic of those programs here in WNY. AA created TV shows in the San Francisco Bay area for over 10 years and in April of 2014 returned to WNY to create a local show that would honor the ones he loved here growing up in the suburbs of Buffalo.
Sherry is the host/co-host of the Discovering WNY segments. She has spent time abroad, lived in Alaska and has had many adventures and tales to tell! Being a mom of two active boys also gives her story a truly humorous, adventurous twist. Even though Sherry holds a college degree she has had a cornucopia of jobs that found her chasing after something that fed her soul and her heart. She feels like she has finally found her forever home with us! Sherry loves people, has the gift of gab, and a zest for life that will make our audience simply fall in love with her!
Our "WNY Kid" specials cast lives all revolve around the rather quirky town of "Ebenezer's Woods"! The town itself is perched high up on a cliff overlooking one of the many wonderful lakes we are blessed to have here in WNY. Along the banks and cliffs of which lake you ask? Well, we'll let you figure that out all for yourself. What's life without a little mystery? Right? While most of our cast lives in a creaky old groundskeepers house (turned boarding house) on the grounds of an old mysterious mansion that two eccentric Mad Doctors live in... Roc, B, Blue, Hot Sauce, Leonard, Mimi, E.G, Lizard Brain, Suzy Pancakes and Zeek all live in the wonderfully green core of the town proper.
"Roc" is not only B's father figure but everyone's Papa-Bear. This bear has seen a lot of living in his day and of course, only wants the best for all. Although he can be a bit overbearing at times, he lives by hard-won truths, handshakes, his good word, and, of course, his humor. While Roc and B often have their moments of differing opinions, there's nothing but love between the two of them.
"B" is an overly-curious, energetic youngster whose heart seems to react faster than his mind, much to his ultimate detriment. This buffalo loves a good book and a great adventure and is always eager to see what's around each corner and under every stone! B's quick, articulate mind always seems to get him into one jam or another and you can bet that Blue & Hot Sauce are not far behind!
Simply put.,"Blue" is B's best friend and practically his roommate, as they both have bedrooms in the same hall of the boarding house. Their relationship is a great example of "guilt by proximity," both figuratively and literally, as whenever B gets into trouble, Blue is never too far behind. Although many times, he can be the voice of reason to B's overly-curious side, he's usually the instigator.
Aptly named "Hot Sauce" or maybe it should have been "Hot Water"! This little guy sells more baloney than a NY deli on Saturday afternoon! And guess who's always buying it? Yep, his two "should-know-better" BFF's, B & Blue. Hot Sauce can turn a lie better than most five time his age and seems to always know just how to spin a situation to get himself out of a jam at just the right moment.
Bob is the groundskeeper and maintenance man around the Mad Doctor's estate. He does his best to see after everyone who lives in the old servants house with him and Mr. B!
Mitty escaped WWII and somehow found himself on a broken down old steamship headed to the US. He set up shop in town in the late 40's as the town's laundryman.
Crazy Frank works for the town and does the odd-jobs no one else seems to want to do. He makes up lies and rumors and always scares the kids in town with his behavior. He's not very well liked.
Like any other 12 year old boy, Mr. B seems to attract more trouble than he can handle! He's simply too smart and too curious and too energetic for his own good most times!
Sampson is Mr. B's best friend and roommate, although he spends most of his free time sunning himself in Old Geezer's Pond on his favorite log perched on Turtle Island.
Chef Alfonso has been the Manor House's main chef/nutritionist since anyone can remember. He once owned everyone's favorite Italian restaurant in town before the Doctor's hired him.
The ghost of Shelly McBride haunts the Manor house most days, but sometimes she'll mosey on over to the servants house and spin a silly poem or two for everyone.
Sequoia "The Littlest Bigfoot" was ousted from his pack in the deep woods for being too small. Baldwin found him howling one night and brought him home.
Surf'n Willy moved to the Woods in the early 70's and still lives in his VW Van in the servant's house garage. He spends his time down at the lake singing and hanging out with Sampson the Turtle!
Baldwin is an alien that's stuck here on Earth. He lives in a small 50's trailer in the woods with his best buddy, another creature, a Little Bigfoot named "Sequoia".
Agent Dan works at a mysterious gate that's located deep in the heart of the Ebenezer's woods that you can only get to from a two tire track gravel path.
Brentwood is the Mad Doctor's oldest child. He's basically a latch-key-kid and spends almost all of his time hanging out with Sequoia and Baldwin in their camper in the Woods doing experiments.
The Flabbergasser is rumored to be the Mad Doctor himself all dressed up in his Medieval Plague outfit. He likes to stalk and scare possible busy-bodies from the estate grounds.
Every mansion needs a moat and this is no exception! Mr. Wardley was a created to patrol the moat and catch intruders and hold them until Mr. Creepy can get to them.
Scully was one of the first "experiments-gone-wrong" the Mad Doctors performed. They placed a scientists brain in an old Pirates skull and the result was the always nutty Skully.
Pepper is Brentwood's smart-aleck/know-it-all little sister and that makes her the only daughter of the Mad Doctors. She is Brentwood's opposite in almost every way.
Mr. Creepy was engineered by the Mad Scientist to troll the estate grounds and sedate and wrap up any trespassers but he seems to spend most of his time goofing off with Skully.
The Frankenchicken is another Mad Doctor experiment gone awry! He was suppose to have all of the characteristics of a guard dog but something went wrong with him.
Ms. Buttersnacks is the local newscaster at the town's TV station and also the owner of the Manor's Servants house that everyone lives at. She's an aging, spitefully mean Swede.
As the director of a few of our kids specials, Leonard usually has a lot on his mind. You can sometimes see him skulking around the streets of Rochester & Buffalo planning shows.
Although Mimi is a bit of a wacko she seems to mostly mean well. You'll usually find her in her old schoolhouse enthusiastically "teaching" her doll collection.
E.G's imagination could fill volumes of books with her vivid ideas of how life's mysteries seem to work. At least in her own mind. Her theories are a real treat to hear!
Zeek is a born surfer always trying to ride the waves in the lake. Much to his dismay! You can find him along the shores of the beach working at his little surf shack.
Suzy Pancakes is a bit of an enigma and generally hides behind a mic at the local Public Radio station doing interviews or a clipboard as Leonard's right-hand Woman!
More awesome characters coming soon!
It's everyone's favorite little Lizard! He's quicker than the eye and more confusing than a Escher painting! Welcome to the sheer insanity that is our lovable little Lizard Brain!
